Why We Need CIONAH
I lost my dad after my first year of college, he was the sole breadwinner of our family, and I can’t afford to pay for college next semester. I don’t want to dropout and lose my dream of being a software developer.
I came to a country where I had no friends or relatives, no one to help me navigate and settle in without spending so much money.
I’m a first generation college graduate, I lost the sponsorship of my local community, and I can no longer keep up with my tuition. I have to break the trend of dropping out of college in my family.
The exchange rate increased to $1= N355, it’s increased how much my sponsor has to pay for school fees every semester, It’s hard to afford tuition and fees. I may have to drop out of college.
I lost my baby sister to wrong diagnosis and treatment. I want to be a medical doctor so that I can return home and help save infants and children in my country but it’s hard to get into medical school because I am not eligible for financial aid.
I want to be an astronaut- the next Neil Armstrong of my country but I can’t pursue this career path in my country because it is not offered. Should my dream die?
I earned my Medical Degree (M.D) from Russia, came to the U.S to pursue an MBA and the possibility of doing my residency but I have to register and pass my board exam (USMLE), but I can’t afford it due to lack of resources.
I’m the first of six children; my parents can’t afford to send us all to college. Getting a good education will mean a lot to my family and me.
As an international student, it’s not easy to find internships that will build my CV and give me the experience I need for the career path I have chosen.
Finding a community of students that face the same challenges as I will make the journey a lot easier. Knowing that if they can do it, so can I motivates me to keep going.
There are several scholarship options for students, but knowing the right one to apply for and the best way to go about the application is a daunting challenge. Getting advice on this issue would be of immense help.
CIONAH is dedicated to accelerating the upward mobility and assimilation of international students (or exchange students) into the United States through the provision of scholarships, hands-on guidance and anything else needed to navigate the unique challenges these students face.
